The 3rd Act: Women Redefining Meaning as Wisdom Keepers

(We’re sorry to tell you: this event is now sold out. Please sign up for our email list to hear about future events like this one!)

How do we, as women, claim our destinies as we live longer lives? And as you move into your own ‘3rd Act’, who do you want to be? What myths about aging do you want to let go of? This Third Act is not about winding down it’s about winding deep. It’s about turning inward to harvest wisdom, then outward to share it with families, communities, and the world.

We are entrained to respond to what life delivers. We have to break the mold and templates of yore and ask ourselves, as Mary Oliver wrote: “what it is you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"

Through work in mindfulness and image-making, and explorations of the power of archetypes, we will explore our developmental foundations, with the goal of uncovering what is possible, authentic, and uniquely true to each of us.

WHEN: October 4th and 5th, 2025,  10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

WHERE: The setting will be the calm quiet of Corkery Gardens (the home and project of co-facilitator Pauline Conley). Workshop fee includes art materials, lunches, snacks and drinks for both days.                 1020 Corkery Rd., Carp, ON (30- 40 minutes west of downtown Ottawa)

WHO:

Facilitator and teacher Anne Hennessy is a psychiatrist from Ireland who has been dedicated to the practice of Mindfulness since 2009, when she first trained with Jon Kabat-Zinn in a program for healthcare professionals. Over the years, she has guided retreats across the world, helping participants cultivate presence, resilience, and compassion.

Now closer to home, she brings her focus to the questions of ageing and wisdom. These questions are shaped both by her professional work with older adults and caregivers, and by her own ongoing search for meaning in later life. Through creating spaces for reflection and exploration, she invites others to engage deeply with their own concerns about ageing, purpose, and legacy.

She believes that in a world of uncertainty, it is essential to remain engaged, to find our voices, and to speak up, so that future generations may continue to enjoy the freedoms we ourselves have cherished.

Co-host Pauline Conley is a professional artist living near Carp, Ontario. As a self-proclaimed generalist, Pauline embraces a multi-disciplinarian and collaborative approach to making, which includes visual art, comics, and a burgeoning discipline in the plastic arts (weaving and ceramics). She has worked extensively in community arts including community events and projects, multi-disciplinary collaborations, and through teaching drawing and painting to artists of all levels and stages of life. She also maintains a busy practice as an ‘explainer’ in support of member-based organisations of informal workers globally. FMI: paulineconley.com
